Pet grooming and academy questions
These are the questions owners and students ask us most on WhatsApp. Questions about one service, such as de-shedding, are answered on that service's page.
Booking and visiting
Can I watch my dog being groomed?
Yes. A screen in our waiting area shows the grooming tables live, so you can watch the whole groom. You can also step out and come back.
How do you groom nervous dogs?
We use positive reinforcement and take breaks, and if they cannot cope we stop and finish on another day.
Do you groom cats?
Yes. Cats are about a fifth of our work, and Persian cats are a speciality.
Can you do a specific haircut I want for my dog?
Usually, yes. If a style would be uncomfortable for the coat or skin, we will say so and suggest another.
Can I stay in the grooming area with my pet?
No. You can watch the whole groom live on the screen in our waiting area instead.
Cats
Does my cat need de-shedding?
Almost every breed of cat benefits from it. We take out the loose undercoat gently, at the cat's pace, with breaks whenever your cat needs one.
Can I watch my cat being groomed?
Yes. The whole groom plays live on a screen in our waiting area, from start to finish. You can see how your cat is handled at every step.
Can you groom a cat that hates being handled?
Often, yes. We work at the cat's pace, in short stretches with breaks. If your cat cannot cope, we stop and finish on another day. We do not groom aggressive cats.
How much does cat grooming cost?
It depends on the coat, its condition and how your cat handles grooming. Send a photo of the coat on WhatsApp and we will give you a figure before you book.
Do you bath cats?
Yes, when it suits the cat and the coat. We bath and dry cats gently, at their pace, and stop if a cat cannot cope.
Prices
How much does grooming cost?
It depends on your pet's breed, size, coat condition and behaviour. Send the breed and a photo on WhatsApp and we will give you a figure before you book.
What is a two-session groom?
It is one groom split across two days, for a pet who cannot cope with one long session. It takes longer, and it is kinder. The second session adds a charge, which we confirm first. For example, a Rs 3,000 groom split in two adds Rs 500 to 600.
Why did two salons quote me different prices for a groom?
Usually because they are quoting for different work. Ask each salon what the price includes, how long the groom takes and how they handle mats.
Will matting make the groom cost more?
It can, because coat condition is one of the things that sets the price. Sometimes clipping short is the only kind option, since a tight mat pulls on the skin. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you before you book.
What we will not do
Why won't you shave my double-coated dog?
The undercoat protects the skin from sun and infection. Once shaved, it does not always grow back the same. We de-shed it properly instead.
Can you colour my pet's fur or nails?
No, for any breed or occasion. Colouring has no benefit to a pet's health or wellbeing. We will not add sensory or behavioural stress for looks alone.
The academy
Do I need grooming experience to join a course?
No. The courses are open to complete beginners as well as working groomers. If you have never groomed, the Basics course is a good place to start.
Will I practise on real pets?
Yes, from the first week, under supervision. On the international course you groom more than 75 dogs and cats, along with mannequin practice.
Can I do the grooming course online?
No. Every course runs only in our salon in Andheri West, because grooming is learned hands-on, on real pets.
How many students are in a batch?
Batches are kept small, so each student gets close teaching on real pets. Ask us on WhatsApp for the size and dates of the next batch.
